matter
With Smart Home, home technology becomes simpler, more practical, and more intelligent. However, adapting such systems can present barriers, especially when configuring from different providers. There's now a ray of hope for these challenges: matter, the upcoming system standard that will make Smart Homes universally connectable and thus smarter than ever.

What is matter?
matter is the result of a joint initiative by global technology companies, including Amazon, Google, Apple, and the Connectivity Standards Alliance ( CSA , formerly the Zigbee Alliance). matter was announced by the CSA at the 2022 Consumer Technology Association ( CES ), a global technology trade fair. Nearly 2,000 software experts and engineers are working to develop matter as a unifying application system and standard. The primary goal is to make smart homes more user-centric than ever before. Matter offers the ability to connect compatible devices from any provider.
As an IP-based system, matter is also independent and is supported by the Thread wireless network technology and blockchain technologies. Matter is an overlay system based on existing IP technologies and operates locally, meaning it can function even without the internet or cloud, an important step for data security and privacy.
How will the matt devices work?
Matter will require Wi-Fi access points and a controller, such as a tablet or smartphone. This can also be an existing Thread Border Router, such as an Amazon Echo or HomePod Mini.
Only matter-certified devices will be compatible with matter, which will be indicated by a logo on the corresponding devices. A single, but only one, corresponding app must be installed on the controller for control. And then all matter products can be integrated!

Who is there
What's special about matter is that the majority of providers in the smart home market are on board (full list here). In the future, it won't matter whether Siri or Alexa is used, as matter will recognize the command. With matter and so-called 'open source' connectivity, smart home will soon be easier than ever. Devices can use various technologies, whether Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or Ethernet, to connect with other smart home devices.
Google Assistant would be controlled with an Apple iPhone, Philips Signify gadgets could be controlled with an Amazon Echo, and so on. No more researching specific smart home products, excluding certain devices due to exclusive connections, or even downloading extra apps. In the future, matter will be sufficient for all smart home products at once.
The efficient future of smart homes
Enabling communication beyond company-specific devices makes one thing above all for customers: everything simpler and more convenient. This is exactly what the smart home is supposed to be at its core. While not everything is set in stone yet, we at SIRO are optimistic that the smart home will be smarter and more seamless than ever, and we are already preparing for the transition.
There are no matt products on the market yet, but vendors have already specified which products are likely to be compatible. We'll stay tuned for the latest developments—expect more news about matter in the near future!
